Seminar Launches Post Doctoral Fellowship to Study Temporomandibular Muscle and Joint Disorders
Boston - On December 6, the effort to combat Temporomandibular Muscle and Joint Disorders (TMJD) took a large step forward. A seminar launching the Milton & Renée Glass Family Fellowship to study TMJD was held at The Forsyth Institute: the world’s leading independent organization dedicated to research and education in oral and craniofacial biology and related sciences. The goal of the fellowship is to understand the disease, prevent it, and identify effective therapies for its treatment. It also provides a unique opportunity to promote awareness, prevention, and education related to TMJD in children.

Good News From JJAMDF
JJAMD has received an unexpected donation of $75,000. The donor requestis that we continue our mission reflecting our own knowledge and independent research from the Patients' Perspective and to help bring appropriate awareness of healthy Jaw Joints and the prevention of the disorders to them ....TMJ Disorders [TMJD].
This comes at a particularlly propitious time, since our seven-year effort--in collaboration with distinguished institutions--to encourage NIH to establish a "Natural History TMJD Patient Registry" was "blown out of the water" by NIDCR last Thanksgiving, giving all of us little to be thankful for.
We hope that this might help to partially fund a demonstration Registry. To this end, we will be setting up a special "JJAMD TMJD Registry Fund" so that the TMJ population and the general public might cooperate to fill a void in the health care and insurance communities. We are also meeting with other resources and interested researchers to participate in independent data collecting for research.
We will be publishing a more in-depth "Current News" report ASAP. We have been withholding this news pending hearing from NIH/NIDCR and Senator Edward Kennedy's May 2004 meetings.
We wish you all better health. Sincerely, Milton and RenÈe
